CAGE-HD/SD

TV Cursor Generator for HD and SD operation.

(Preliminary information)

From the Company that produced the world's first commercially available TV Cursor Generator 1/3 Century ago whilst coining the acronym "CAGE", Murraypro is proud to introduce CAGE-HD/SD.

CAGE-HD Front

Designed to be used in series with the SDI video feed to a TV monitor, effectively, "across" a line; CAGE superimposes upon the screen image accurately computed cursors which indicate zones within which it is deemed "safe" to include either important "Action", or critical "Graphics" material, for example. Originally conceived to compensate for linearity errors and twisted scans on CRT monitors, use of the CAGE's precision Cursors is just as important today, as it ever was. Aspect Ratio Conversion and Standards Conversion between TV formats is an every day occurrance, and the intuitative ease of operation which has been a hall mark of the Murraypro CAGEs since first inception, and release, in the mid '70s, is retained along with the "look and feel" of our popular CAGE-2K.

CAGE-HD/SD automatically configures itself to the TV Standard detected, pre-loading appropriate cursors from the internal Library to the front panel page selector. When using 625/50Hz Standard with a digital line length of 720 pixels, for example, cursors are calculated with respect to an effective picture width of 702 pixels, to conform with EBU R95: 2000. The CAGE-HD/SD Library is future proof, as Cursor Maps are held in tabular form, the fields of which may be rapidly updated to provide Users with Cursors computed to conform with the latest requirements. If the input signal's Standard changes, the CAGE will identify, and declare, the newly found TV standard with on-screen text.

For nearly 2 decades, Murraypro's CAGEs have provided a vital on-screen legend uniquely identifying each Library page displayed, an important function when many of the Cursor pages appear rather similar. We can't, of course, actually advise you which Cursor to use in a given situation, but we always remind you which you are using!

Naturally, CAGE offers movable cursors too. These are User set to specify an area of interest which may be the position of a "lower frame super", or an on-screen "Ident", for example. Individual areas are defined by means of a steerable "noughts and crosses" style grid, with the pixel address of each line shown numerically on the monitor screen, making it easy to record the precise location of the zone defined. These movable cursors may be be used directly, or they may be stored onboard in non-volatile memory, and available for future recovery and use later.

CAGE-HD/SD is available in two versions, a very cost effective SD only version, and the fully fledged HD/SD version. The SD only version of the CAGE is designed to be upgradable as your requirements develop and grow to encompass these HD functions in the future; so, no Capital wasted here! Without adjustment, the entry level SD version of the CAGE operates on 50 & 60Hz SDI standards, whilst the HD version also includes operation on 24/25/30Hz I/P/S and 48/50/60 I or S.

By means of internal circuit board configuration links, it is possible to swap the HD/SD SDI output to be either a straight equalised & reclocked "clean" copy of the input, or to have the CAGE cursors added; the decision is yours. The CAGE Unit provides a very useful baseband utility video OP of the SDI throughput; and in HD mode, this utility output is a scaled copy of the HD output signal, enabling the display of the CAGE's HD Cursors on a low cost SD monitor. This Utility DAC'd OP, with CAGE inserted, may be (DIP) switch selected between YUV, RGsB, Y+C or CVBS video mode.

Power is supplied to the Unit via a 3 pin IEC connector to the internal universal SMPSU, covering operation off 100 ~ 240V ac supplies and eliminating our pet hate, the "wall-wart". Operation off battery derived nominal +12V supplies for field use, is available too, to special order.

CAGE-HD/SD is self-contained, and may be used either as a free standing Unit, or mounted 1 or 2 up in a 1U rack slot. Murraypro Designers are well aware how an initially attractive price is rapidly eroded by the number of compulsory "extras", many of which may be actually required to get a product operational. Cost of ownership is ruthlessly controlled by housing the Unit in a single compact case only 157w x 44h x 187mm deep (precisely matching our PICO miniature PPM!), and eliminating an expensive and noisy rack-mount frame to house the electronics. The latest low power silicon has been chosen firstly to enhance performance, and also, vitally, to reduce the power consumption to a miserly 3 Watts, and the consequent heat generation to an absolute minimum, thereby totally eliminating the requirement for, and noise of, fans. Wonderful! The small size of the front panel, and ease with which the entire Unit may be mounted, eliminates the need for a separate, and often expensive, remote control panel. Consider the savings in your installation costs too with just two simple BNC connectors to terminate (we even provide your IEC~IEC mains cable!).

CAGE-HD/SD will be available for general release very early in 2008, and several impressive and substantial pre-launch Orders have already been received from a number of major UK Contractors.

See the CAGE-HD/SD (and convince yourself too!) on our Stand F50 at London's Video Forum Exhibition, Earls Court 2, 30th Jan - 1st Feb 2008. Your complimentary ticket for free entry to the Show may be arranged by visiting www.broadcastvideoforum.co.uk
