For applications where the Pico, PPM6 and Mini-Mon2 metering may be too small, Murraypro has developed an elegant, full specification, PPM Unit that performs a range of vital audio monitoring functions with no compromise. Providing selectable A1&A2, A3&A4, M&S1/2 or M&S3/4 Peak Programme level monitoring, overload indication, dual stereo phase verification and audio presence confirmation simultaneously, all this without cluttering the TV display monitor in any way, and with an AES input option!

The Murraypro PPM-74MB has been designed to satisfy a number of vital day to day audio monitoring requirements, and will find use in Edit Suites as a stand alone PPM Unit, and "over equipment" monitoring bridges, where the Tektronix compatible dimensions make it ideal for inclusion within a Wave-Form Monitor 3U rack frame.

Fitted with the dual Red and Green pointers the Sifam Type 74B PPM movement has found favour, through out the Broadcast industry, for the ease with which a stereo audio signal may be monitored. The front panel of the Murraypro PPM-74MB offers input switching for the meters to select between four pairs of audio signals, A1 & A2, A3 & A4, Mix & Separation (A1&A2) or M&S (A3&4). Optionally the displayed derived M1 signal may be increased in level by +3dB, in accordance with certain BBC preferences, by simple adjustment of an internal link.

PEAK LEVEL INDICATOR

Four independent ultra bright red LEDs detect and indicate peak input signal levels in excess of +9dBV.7 for each channel. Upon request, Murraypro can adjust the sensitivity of the peak detectors to trigger at +8dBV.7 (+ 0.15dB),thus alerting the Operator of potential over modulation at an earlier stage.

PHASE VERIFICATION

Correct A1:A2 & A3:A4 phasing is indicated by green illumination of the phase indicator. Incorrect phasing of either channel pair is immediately obvious as the respective PPM-74MB phase indicator changes colour to red. This phase indication is highly reliable, and is vital in an editing environment, where the highly visual PASS/FAIL indication provides this vital information instantly, preventing potentially expensive Operational mistakes which may only become apparent very much later!

AUDIO PRESENCE CONFIRMATION

Audio presence is visually indicated by illumination of the stereo phase LEDs, in either colour, and is particularly useful when the monitor LS volume may be reduced. The phase indicator(s) extinguish when both A1 and A2 signals (A3 and A4) are below approximately -25dBV.7, preventing nuisance triggering on very low level signals.

ALWAYS VIGILANT

These vital LEDs monitorall channels continuously, regardless of the meter switch selection, ensuring that problems are flagged immediately, and nothing relevant is missed.

AUDIO INPUTS

Looping high impedance balanced audio inputs on female-male XLR-3 are provided for each channel input, however optional AES dual channel input cards are available, ensuring that interfacing with the PPM-74MB is particularly flexible.

POWER

Configured to run from 230v supplies, PPM-74MB requires approximately 4VA. Mains power is supplied via an IEC connector. 110 v operation to special order.

PHYSICAL

The free-standing PPM-74MB is supplied within an attractive, and highly durable, light grey steel case with resilient non-slip/scratch plastic feet. The outer case is removed when WFM frame mounting is required. Solid-state actinic white light PPM illumination is used, ensuring vivid illumination of the red and green meter pointers, and scale markings.

The 3U high ½ rack width, PPM-74MB is only 215W x 130H x 440mm deep, and weighs approximately 5 KGm. PPM-74MB conforms with the CE marking requirements.
