CAGE-2K EPROM

(Version:1v11 Released April 2001)

In depth support for

16x9, 14x9, 12x9 & 4x3, defining "Shoot to Protect" limits

625 & 525 TV formats.

CAGE-2K is launched with an extensive range of 24 Graticules to cover the latest format requirements. Both 525 and 625standards are covered, with cognisance of the essential difference between 702 and 720 pixel line lengths.

The Prom containing these Graticules is NOT suitable for use in our, now obsolete, CAGE-X. From time to time Murraypro may release Cursor revisions that are suitable for the earlier Products, and Owners are advised to revisit this Web site for further information.

The title or description of each graticule is stated at the top of the screen, so that there can be no doubt as to the purpose and suitability of the selected format.

Detail of a selection of the graticules described below.

In general, Graphics Safe and Action Safe, for a particular standard, are presented on seperate pages, thus reducing clutter and preventing confusion. Selection between these associated pages (ie between "1" and "7", for example) is effected by holding the selected key down for one second, whereupon toggling between pages will automatically occur.

Page 10) Full width, archive, 12x9 picture; showing the declared "shoot to protect" 14x9 format limits. The Page shows the new recommended "shoot to protect" limits for important "Action" when the material is Aspect Ratio Converted towards 16x9 format.

Page 5) Graticule for use with the Wide Screen environment, where 16x9 is displayed as a full height and width picture. The Page shows both the new recommended limits for important "Graphics" and "Action" material together.

Page 11) Full width 16x9 picture, showing the declared 14x9 and 12x9 viewed area limits.

Page 6) The Graticule shows the limits of the "Safe Title" area, as defined in BS 5550 Part 6, Section 6.3 (1982). This Standard also defines the corner radius, now thought by many to be obsolete. This heritage "4x3" Standard is rather conservative with regard to "Safe Title", but may be Client specified when generating programs for over-seas distribution.

Page 12) The Graticule shows the limits of the "Safe Action" area, as defined in BS 5550 Part 6, Section 6.3 (1982). The Standard also defines the corner radius, now thought by many to be obsolete. This heritage "4x3" Standard may be Client specified when generating programs for overseas distribution.

Note: the reference to "12x9" aspect ratio is in relation to commissioned or archive material produced in 4x3 aspect ratio, and that will ultimately be viewed on a 16x9 format display.

This new Graticule collection complements our existing special Prom that is offered specifically for Telecine use. This Prom shows the effect of displaying full width pictures, in both 4x3 and 16x9 TV aspect ratios, with the following film aspect ratios:- 1.33:1, 1.66:1, 1.78:1, 1.85:1, 2.35:1 & 2.55:1

Murraypro welcomes your feedback on these new Graticules. We are willing to consider generation of specific new Pages that are of generic interest. Murraypro is always pleased to discuss the generation of custom Graticules for a Client's specific or restricted use.
